If authority can change the laws, bylaws, and rules authority are meant to be beholden to, that’s how you know law isn’t and never will be sacrosanct; nor can it ever be an arbiter for upstanding ethics and morality.

For all the interest in nature-based solutions for climate adaptation, there’s a lack of funding and political will to make them happen. #ClimateChange #adaptation #ClimateCrisis https://e360.yale.edu/features/why-are-nature-based-solutions-on-climate-being-overlooked

global abortion laws
Hope some people pushing back on the attack on abortion in the u.s. keep in mind that birthing autonomy is an intersectional privilege on a global level. Just like there are many people in the u.s. whose access to free & safe abortion (& pregnancy) has never really existed, there are even more people worldwide who don't have these things even on paper - & in many cases the u.s., nato, & five eyes send hundreds of millions of dollars a year to these governments. This also means that there are many people who have been fighting back under incredibly repressive conditions who deserve equal support & attention

I wrote about quitting Google a few years ago - I've using several different tools now, but this was my take back then - https://thenextweb.com/news/how-i-fully-quit-google-and-you-can-too
continued re:antiblackness, white supremacy, russian invasion of ukraine fallout
many people who've made the above observations have also pointed out that the response to ukrainian refugees has not been good enough. the fact that "not good enough" is still far above the staus quo should tell you something.
I'm finally reading that bell hooks All About Love book. I thought it was gonna make my eye roll but it's actually quite good.
In the chapter I'm in, she introduces this idea of "cathexis" which is the moment a person or thing enters your sphere of concern. It is not the same as love but is often mistaken for love. That distinction is illuminating. She defines love as a force that wills you to want to be better for yourself or another person.
I need to take some time to write a piece about how there is a direct line connecting the States' obsession with criminalizing abortion and limiting birth control directly to the capitalist practice of taking away one's bodily autonomy that was perfected during the slave trade.
Politics in the US has always revolved around maintaining control for the sake of profit. Sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc are all constantly pushed because the expansion and normalization of different modalities of the human experience are a direct threat to capital.
The more we embrace our shared humanity, the less likely we are to participate in capitalism for individual gain.
The nonsensical attempts to push back the rights of women in a desperate attempt to violently force us back into that myopia show they are terrified of the conversations we are having.
While my immediate reaction is disgust, I'm also encouraged because there is a deep fear that is guiding these deranged policies. People have spent their lives trying to harm us for being more human.
Their rage is because they know they are losing.
They are trying to legislate what humanity is and they can't. They've already lost. Violence is the only option bigots have left.
