Boing Boing on Cordel Urbano
Hello world, I'm Josh. I code stuff. I make exist.io, a thing for tracking data about yourself, but I'm against surveillance capitalism. I sometimes make pixel art, play guitar, and make bad computer music, but if past behaviour on twitter is any indication I'll probably be mostly ranting about billionaires and bad tech like NFTs.
The fediverse is a true social network, in that it actually requires you to do "networking" and be "social."
Think of it like a crowded pub. There are no celebrities here. You'll need to make an effort to meet people, no algorithm pushes content on you. To find more people, and new content, you'll need to talk to people, and see what they're into. You can move around, but you need to get along with people sitting near you.
These are commonly labeled "problems," but I consider them "features." #feditips
Righto, here’s my fedi-tips:
- it’s slower here, less addictive than corp social media. This is a good thing, try and enjoy it.
- you see what you follow. No ads, no obscure reshuffling, no manipulating your emotions. Enjoy that too.
- please consider using CWs. Could it hurt, shock, upset, harm?
- please describe your pictures if you can
- give benefit of the doubt: text easily misleads
- shared something negative? Maybe follow with positive action.
- fash, queerphobes, bigots: fuck off 💚
"... aktualna vlada [je] Slovencem hotela vsiliti svojo vizijo zabavljaške, katolizirane, lažno domoljubne in kičaste pop kulture, ki ne razsvetljuje, pač pa poneumlja. Petkovi protivladni protesti so bili tako tudi protesti za umetnost in za kulturo – nasproti narodnozabavni provladni kulturi so vsak petek postavljali duhovito, ironično, satirično, sporočilno kulturo in umetnost. south african / Azanian housing activists need support
Description of attached image:
An appeal for support titled "Devastating Fire at Singabalapha", with the subheading "Call For Solidarity", over a blue gradient background.
On the right, there are two photos.
1) three Black people - two adults, one holding a child - are in front of devastated housing.
2) another view of the destruction without any people in front. charred wood & a damaged fence can clearly be seen.
Text below the title reads:
"Help Mase, Pamela, Sihle and their families get back on their feet.
Pamela and her [four] children have lost everything except the [clothes] on their backs. Mase and her two children have lost half her home. Donations of building material, furniture, [clothes], blankets etc all welcome."
There is information for cash donations & drop-off of goods, bht most relevant is the information for international donations at the very bottom: a PayPal email address, email@example.com
Please contribute & share, if anyone local to s.a. (Eastern Cape) sees this we can transcribe more of the local information & add a detailed list of needed goods upon request.

Via Nitter: Madeleine Albright is the perfect example of the соlоniаΙism in liberal White feminism. As the 1st female Secretary of State, she supported coups in Venezuela and Cuba, the geпoсide of 500,000 Iraqi children, and the colonial myth of American eхсерtionalism. A Thread 🧵. 1/

"Unlike liberals and reformists, we are not here to reaffirm and reassert law and order. We are not here to transform America into one big safe space. We are here to make the chaos and the disorder more terrible than it has ever been.
We must do what revolutionaries have always done: we must make the contradiction intolerable." - Idris Robinson
"The thing is, I have never in my life actually seen a Black leader. Why? Because they don’t exist...The odd thing about it is that somehow white liberals have more contact with Black leaders than I have ever come across in my entire life. It is as if a channel extends from the Black leadership directly into their head."
"Identity politics, intersectionality, and social privilege discourse: all are modalities of the police." - Idris Robinson on the 2020 uprisings and more
